What is Lydney Dial-A-Ride?
Lydney Dial-A-Ride is a friendly door-to-door transport service for those
people who do not have their own transport and are unable to use public
transport. We operate a fleet of fully accessible minibuses capable of carrying
wheelchair passengers and other seated passengers, and a volunteer based car service.
Who can use the service?
The Dial-A-Ride service aims to provide transport for the following groups:
People without their own transport who:
Are elderly and/or frail
Have a disability (permanent or temporary)
Need to use a wheelchair
Able bodied people with no access to public transport and do not have frequent/convenient access to a car
If you fit into either of the above categories then why not try this service? A few simple questions over the telephone, or filling in and returning a membership form available from the Lydney Town Hall will determine eligibility.
All of the services operate on a Dial-A-Ride basis. This means that journeys must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.
Minibuses are available for hire, with a driver, on evenings and weekends. Call 01594 843809/844558 for further details.
Where can I go?
If you suffer from restricted mobility this service can provide an opportunity for you to go to:
Shops
Health appointments
Hairdressers
Post Office
Opticians
Library
Weddings, parties and other social events etc
We can also arrange transport for sports/youth groups and visits to relatives in hospital within and outside the local area.
How do I book a seat?
To book your seat simply telephone the Dial-A-Ride office on 01594 843809/844558 between 9.00am and 4.30pm (Monday to Friday), giving your membership number and details of the journey you wish to make. If you don’t have a telephone please ask someone else to contact us on your behalf. When booking a journey please give us 24 hours notice if possible to avoid disappointment.
What does it cost?
A £3 annual registration fee allows unlimited use, and journeys are fare-based (minimum fare is £3.40). We are a non-profit organization and all fees and fares go towards supporting the service.
We can accept FODDC concessionary tickets.
Our 3 charity shops also help support the scheme and fund our buses. They are located in:
Lydney (Hams Road)
Coleford (Market Place)
Cinderford (High Street)
How does your Volunteer car service work?
The Volunteer car service is available for medical appointments and visiting relatives, both within and outside of the county, and we have a number of cars available, charged on a per-mile basis. To find out more, or if you would like to become a volunteer, please get in contact.
